Guided Tour of the many deceased artists at the Green-Wood Cemetery
Before your weekend gets too involved with costumes and party hopping, take a tour through Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery where some of New York’s historically significant artists are buried, including Neo-Expressionist Jean-Michael Basquiat, realist George Bellows, and Impressionist William Merritt Chase.
Private guided group tours last around two hours. Free.

Samita Sinha at The Kitchen
Join The Kitchen for a raw and visceral vocal performance testing boundaries of language, form, and sound by vocalist Samita Sinha. Working with multiple synthesizers, Sinha combines elements of traditional Northern Indian music and electronica.

Robot Heart
Burning Man’s Halloween edition promises a healthy dose of artsy burners and celebrity sightings—last year’s edition saw the likes of Lindsay Lohan, style icon Waris Ahluwalia, and the French model Constance Jablonski. This year again promises to be epic. For those in need of some Halloween costume ideas, why not dress up as Magritte’s Son of a Man or another artful getup—see our “Top 10 Art-Inspired Halloween Costumes.”
10 PM-6 AM. Though tickets are officially sold out, determined party goers may be able to find tickets through Burning Man’s Robot Heart Facebook, Reddit, or Craigslist.

Halloween [All Hallow’s Eve]: Lee Burridge/Monkey Safari/Christian Löffler/Bedouin at Verboten
If scalping tickets to Robot Heart is fruitless, fear not. You can have your fill of an electronic art scene at the underground music haven Verboten where painter-photographer-turned DJ Christian Löffler is among the stacked line up for the night’s Halloween extravaganza.

Saturday, November 1
Day of the dead celebration at the National Museum of the American Indian
Watch dance performances and take part in the interactive demonstrations in celebration of this tradition. The core event, the ofrenda— placing of food, photos and other sacrifices on a three tiered altar—promises a real, meaningful cultural opportunity. Yes, really.

MoMA Lecture, Forging the Sublime: Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko 
Join museum educators in the David Teiger Painting and Sculpture Gallery to compare and contrast two works by abstract expressionists Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko. This is perfect for a hangover or to keep the buzz going for those with jazz cigarettes.
