THE DAILY PIC (#1767): Sometimes, a photograph does its job simply by showing us a place we haven’t been. On first seeing Katherine Newbegin’s Moonlight Cinema, in a group show of photos at Lesley Heller in New York, I thought it was enough that I’d been transported to a fine old cinema in India.
Then I realized that there was more to my fascination than that. I was looking at a photo of a space that was all about looking—and I was in the screen’s position, ready to be watched by the crowd that was about to arrive. (Courtesy the artist and Lesley Heller Workspace, New York)
