Absolut has announced the longlist of nominees for the 2015 Absolut Art Award, which is split in two categories: “Art Work” and “Art Writing”.

The artist longlist features 37 household names, hailing from 24 countries, such as Leonor Antunes, Simon Denny, Geoffrey Farmer, Trisha Donnelly, Camille Henrot (see “Camille Henrot Wins Nam June Paik Award”), Mark Leckey, Laure Prouvost, and Frances Stark.

The 10 longlisted art writers include Adam Kleinman, Quinn Latimer, Dieter Roelstrate, and Tirdad Zolghard.

The jury, chaired by New Museum’s associate director and director of exhibitions Massimiliano Gioni (see “Massimiliano Gioni Leads Absolut Art Jury”), will select a shortlist of five artists and five writers, which will be announced during Art Basel Miami Beach 2014 (December4-7).

The jury is formed by a group of reputed international art professionals, including Fundación Jumex curator Magali Arriola, Bidoun’s senior editor Negar Azimi, M+ museum chief curator Doryun Chong, and Jessica Morgan, incoming director of Dia Art Foundation (see “Dia Art Foundation Taps Tate’s Jessica Morgan for Director Job”).

The Absolut Art Award was launched in 2009 to celebrate the 30 years of the brand’s collaboration with artists (see “Absolut Vodka Launches Andy Warhol Bottle”). The winning artist will receive a cash prize of €20,000 and a budget of €100,000 to produce and exhibit a new artwork. The winning writer will also receive a cash prize of €20,000, plus a budget of €25,000 to research and produce a new art publication.

The winners will be announced during the opening of the 56th Venice Biennale in May 2015. An award ceremony will take place in September 2015 in Stockholm.
