Curator and cultural theorist Anke Bangma will be the new artistic leader of TENT Rotterdam as of October 1, 2016, the organization has announced.

An important platform for contemporary art in Rotterdam, TENT is one of four branches of the central organization for connecting art and the city, CBK Rotterdam. Director of the latter, Ove Lucas has said, “In appointing Anke Bangma, CBK Rotterdam has the right person for taking new steps at TENT. I have high expectations of her astute vision on the role of contemporary artists in Rotterdam.”

Formerly curator of contemporary art at the Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam, Bangma has also worked at Rotterdam’s Piet Zwart Institute and the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art.

On her selection for the role of artistic leader at TENT, she said, “I am very happy with this opportunity to play an active part in the Rotterdam art world again. The groundbreaking approaches and social engagement among Rotterdam’s artists have always been an inspiration to me.”

She went on to describe her vision of the institute, saying, “TENT can stimulate artistic experiments and reveal current developments against the backdrop of a city that, in many ways, is a mirror of our time.[…] I look forward to working in this dynamic place with a wide variety of artists, including the generation for whom interculturalism is a prominent aspect of art and culture today.”
