1. “Adorn and Subvert: A Discussion on Wearable Resistance” at Eyebeam
This panel discussion will focus on the ways clothing and accessories can counter oppression, harassment, and unwanted surveillance. Moderated by writer Joanne McNeil, the talk is presented as part of the “Making Patterns” exhibition currently on view in the gallery space. Panelists are former Eyebeam student resident Iltimas Doha, who is designing an anti-harassment hoodie, artist Adam Harvey, and artist Lisa Kori Chung.

Adorn and Subvert” will take place at 117 Beekman Street on August 19 at 7 p.m.

2. “Agathe Snow: Stamina” at the Guggenheim
Agathe Snow’s Stamina is a film that runs for 24 hours and took ten years to make. Focusing on the underground culture of post-9/11 New York, it began in 2005 with Snow staging and filming a 24-hour dance party with her friends (who included Dan Colen, Dash Snow, and Ryan McGinley) in a dingy Ann Street loft. A decade later, the film is a monument to the willful resistance of youth culture, and will transform the Guggenheim into a party as long (though perhaps not as wild) as the original. The endurance event will feature live music by Donald Cumming, I.U.D (Lizzi Bougatsos and Spencer Sweeney), among others.

Agathe Snow: Stamina” will be on display at the Guggenheim from August 20 at 6 p.m.–August 21 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25.

3. LIC Block Party at SculptureCenter
SculptureCenter’s LIC Block Party will feature an array of artist-led activity booths for all ages, live music and performances, a market with affordable art objects, and food stands from local restaurants. Admission is free, and the afternoon will include performances by Pill, Dog Man & Friends, and Broken Time (Matt Freedman & Tim Spelios), as well as percussionist-cum-sculptor Eli Keszler, who has turned the venue’s basement into a giant instrument. Indie salon Vanity Projects will also be on hand to make sure no nail goes unadorned.

LIC Block Party will take place at SculptureCenter on August 22 from 12–5 p.m.

4. “Sight, Site, Cite” at OUTLET Fine Art
Organized and curated by Noah Becker, Jeffrey Grunthaner, and Julian A. Jimarez and sponsored by Whitehot Magazine, this aptly-named group show is “inspired by signage, the way bodies appear against different architectural backdrops, and the significance ascribed to places.” The exhibition will also feature readings and performances throughout its two-week run.

Sight, Site, Cite” will be on display at OUTLET from August 22–September 6. An opening reception will take place on August 22 from 7–10 p.m.
