The shortlist of artists to be featured in public spaces across the UK this summer as a part of Art Everywhere was announced on Thursday. After 38,000 public votes on a Facebook poll, the longlist selected by Art Everything founder Richard Reed and Head of Art at Royal Museums Greenwich, Christine Riding, from UK’s public collections was narrowed down to the 25 works to be displayed. This year’s edition of the exhibition was launched yesterday by Antony Gormley and Grayson Perry. The largest outdoor exhibition in the world, Art Everywhere will be displayed on 30,000 bus stops, billboards, and other public locations.

Antony Gormley commented on the project: “Works in public collections form an important part of our collective visual memory, marking a particular place, time and person. It is great that these works are being celebrated and shared in this way.”

The shortlist was revealed on the largest indoor advertising screen in the UK, Motion@Waterloo in Waterloo Station. It features works such as Slow Movement by Eileen Agar, My Parents by David Hockney, and King and Queen by Henry Moore. Antony Gormley also created an exclusive work for the exhibition that is available to be downloaded for free. The exhibition was extended to a six week long period after last year’s success. It is estimated that the works will be seen by 90 percent of the UK population over the course of the exhibition’s duration. Art Everywhere runs from July 21 to August 31.

The States-side edition, Art Everywhere US, will debut this year on August 4 in Times Square. It will feature 58 works displayed across the United States throughout August.
