If you’re a true New Yorker, you know there’s no real reason to be in Times Square (okay, maybe to go see Jersey Boys). But this summer, audiovisual artist Daniel Canogar invited people to climb up the towers of the bustling area instead of just walking it (see “Times Square Video Stunt has People Climbing the Walls“). Now that filming has been completed, “midnight moment” will go live every night from 11:57 pm–12:00 am through September 30th. What does it look like? Well artnet News went down to take a look so you didn’t have to.
Standing in the middle of 47th street and Broadway, a few seconds before it hits 11:57 you can see a cue mark on the screen. Then a countdown begins, like an old movie filmed on a super 8 projector, from 10 down to one. Suddenly, tourists stop snapping themselves and start taking pictures of the multi-colored and white silhouettes of individuals crawling up the LED screens.
A quirky and humorous piece of work, we decided to see what else Canogar can come up with in his 15 second artnet Instagram interview.
