Last Thursday, artnet and Maestro Dobel Tequila joined together for a magical evening under the starlit Miami sky to celebrate the launch of artnet’s new “In the Studio” series, featuring intimate 360-degree videos of up-and-coming artists at work. Gathering together on the fifth level of Herzog & de Meuron’s spectacular 1111 Lincoln Road—home to the edgy fashion boutique Alchemist—guests sat down to a multi-course meal prepared by James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Schwartz that was inspired by the three artists who were the subject of the inaugural “In the Studio” spotlights: the photorealistic drawing sensation Cj Hendry, the mesmerizing textile artist Julia Bland, and the psychologically penetrating painter Nir Hod.
Over the course of the evening, each artist got up to tell the assembled dinner guests a bit about their approach, and then stood aside their video played on a massive LED wall. Guests, in the meantime, were greeted by a signature Black Diamond Margarita, created with the balanced smoky and agave notes of Maestro Dobel Tequila Humito, inspired by the Artisanal Process from the 17th century tequila production techniques.
For the dinner, Schwartz prepared tuna crudo with blood orange and puffed rice paired with double distilled and crisp Maestro Dobel Tequila Silver, playing off the flavors of the sea; pan-roasted lamb loin on a bed of whipped beat and pomegranate paired with Maestro Dobel Tequila Diamante, the world’s first ever multi-aged clear tequila, as an impressively nuanced and smooth compliment to the beautifully prepared cut of meat; and a chocolate custard with candied orange and a date crumble, served on Nir Hod’s “The Night You Left” dessert plates from the Prospect NY and perfectly paired with Dobel Tequila Anejo with notes of caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, and cooked agave aromas with pineapple, peach, orange blossom, nutmeg, and raisin in the nose. Maestro Dobel Tequila’s signature product range is created by 11th-generation tequila master Juan Domingo Beckmann Legorreta “Dobel” from 100-percent blue agave harvested on an estate in Jalisco, Mexico.
