The fun—and exhausting—thing about art fairs is that there’s always another one out in the world demanding your attention. Case in point: Art Basel opens next week, bringing with it all the fanfare, major exhibitors, and patrons for which it is best known. If that wasn’t enough, VOLTA 13 and LISTE – Art Fair Basel will both be in full swing as well, so you’ve got a triple threat to keep you busy. That being said, you should always explore beyond the confines of the art fair halls, so be sure to venture over to the local galleries of Basel and neighboring Zürich while you’re at it. There’s a major Jenny Holzer exhibition over at Hauser & Wirth you shouldn’t miss, and the colorful Minimalist work of Imi Knoebel at Galerie von Bartha that merits a detour. Painting fans should hurry to Galerie Eva Presenhuber for the luscious work of Henry Taylor, while photography collectors should plot a course to Christophe Guye Galerie for Rinko Kawauchi’s signature light touch.
