New social media art initiative VanGoYourself invites its members to become artworks themselves. The platform allows users to recreate classical paintings in a contemporary setting and share it with their friends. The site features over 50 paintings from masters such as Van Gogh and Rembrandt, cherry-picked in over 10 collections in seven European countries .

The site pairs the recreation with the original painting. Artwork-wannabe can choose the level of difficulty.’ VanGoYourself is part of the Europeana Creative project, a transnational initiative funded by the EU. The aim of VanGoYourself is “to enable and promote the greater re-use by creative industries of cultural heritage resources,” they say.
