Beyoncé and Jay Z Dressed as Frida Kahlo and Basquiat for Halloween

Beyoncé and Jay Z are continuing their art crusade. Not content with having recently elevated the art selfie to a global phenomenon (see “Beyoncé and Jay Z Elevate the Art Selfie Into a Movement”), the power couple has also come out on top in the race for the coolest arty Halloween costume.

Last Friday, the couple dazzled their party’s guests at Charlie Bird in New York with art-themed outfits, Oyster magazine reports. Beyoncé, all eyebrows and floral headpiece, dressed as the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Meanwhile, Jay Z sipped champagne and looked aloof, channeling the 1980s artist and New York bad boy Jean-Michel Basquiat by sporting a maze of spiky dreadlocks and wayfarer sunglasses.

Needless to say, here at artnet News we are feeling pretty chuffed. We did suggest Frida Kahlo as a Halloween costume option, after all (see “Top 10 Art-Inspired Halloween Costumes For You”).

Meanwhile, it seems that Beyoncé and Jay Z’s involvement with the art world is becoming contagious to their next of kin. Last week, it was announced that Beyoncé’s sister Solange will curate a selection of performances for the SELECT Fair (see “Solange Knowles Curates Art Fair Section in Miami”), which takes place during Art Basel Miami Beach.
