Taking a break from filming the Netflix military satire War Machine in Berlin, Hollywood star Brad Pitt was spotted meandering through the galleries of the German capital, where he reportedly spent some of his advance to bolster his art collection.

The actor has a great interest in contemporary art and is considered to be a connoisseur in Hollywood circles.

Pitt went to see the newly-opened Ed Ruscha exhibition at Sprüth Magers, in the city’s trendy Mitte district. The show of the Los Angeles-based artist, titled “Metro Mattresses,” consists of series of drawings depicting discarded mattresses seen on the streets of Los Angeles.

Because galleries are notoriously tight-lipped in order to protect the privacy of their clients, it is unconfirmed whether Pitt added a new Ruscha piece to his growing contemporary art collection.

The star also visited the Danish artist Ólafur Elíasson at his studio at nearby Senefelderplatz.

According to BZ Berlinthe actor’s collection is worth an estimated €18 million ($19.2 million) and includes works by artists such as Neo Rauch, Banksy, Marcel Dzama, and Schoony, the favorite artist of Pitt and his wife Angelina Jolie.

In Hollywood, Pitt’s interest in contemporary art is perhaps surpassed only by fellow actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who is regularly seen at important evening auctions or cutting the line at blue chip gallery openings.

However, the actors’ collections pale in comparison to that of Hollywood executive David Geffen, whose $2.3 billion collection, which includes works by Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, makes up almost a third of his estimated $7 billion net worth.
