Helsinki’s Galerie Forsblom brings us “Family,” a selection of works from Chantal Joffe, exhibiting a technique unlike that which we usually see by the English artist.

In contrast to her highly expressive oil paintings, here the artist presents us with a series of pastels, which bring with them a softness, that by no means takes away from her powerful female subjects. Instead, it allows her to present them in a new light.

The artist’s typical themes of friends, family, and motherhood are represented in Family, and included are her signature self-portraits. Warm and provocative interpretations of her subjects capture them as relaxed, soulful beings, making this exhibition another expression of Joffe’s exploration of womanhood.
