An ultra limited-edition rose gold watch, bejeweled in diamonds and pearls, heralds 2024, the year of the dragon in the Chinese zodiac.

There are only eight of these wondrous, imperial dragons on earth. That ultra-limited-edition number was chosen for being the luckiest number in Chinese culture. This week, just in time for the holidays and a glorious preamble to 2024, the year of the dragon in the Chinese zodiac, the luxury jeweler Harry Winston has released a new timepiece. The dramatic serpentine watch features a crimson dragon emerging from clouds to seize a pearl in its mighty jaws.

The Harry Winston Chinese New Year Automatic 36mm is a highly symbolic timepiece meant to signify good fortune and happiness for years to come. The regal beast’s body is composed of hand-carved gold-tipped, red lacquer scales. Red is the color of luck and passion and of the bold alligator strap. The 18k rose gold case is accentuated with 39 brilliant cut diamonds on the dial. The gold buckle is made even further opulent with 17 additional inlaid diamonds. The finishes are just as lux—an 18K white gold rotor, circular Côtes de Genève, rhodium plating, and circular graining. Also, this high-flying dragon is amphibious—the watch is water-resistant.

The gold bead one uses to open the octagonal gift box echoes the watch’s pearl. Courtesy of Harry Winston.

And there is no need to wrap this ultimate mythological gift. Each of the eight timepieces are engraved with the edition number on the back and come in an octagonal Chinese Temple gift box decorated with golden clouds.

The dragon watch is the debut of Harry Winston Moments, a new collection pushing wondrous aesthetic design.
