Jonathon Sturgeon has been appointed deputy editor of artnet News.

For nearly ten years, Sturgeon has edited coverage of arts and culture, including writing on film, literature, and visual art for a variety of publications including Flavorwire, American Reader, n+1 Magazine, and e-flux.

“I’ve long admired this group of writers and editors at artnet News, and I’m especially impressed with the range and balance of their coverage, which happens to be smart, timely, and global,” said Sturgeon. “For my part, I’m excited to explore new stories and new forms of storytelling.”

Apart from his role as an editor, Sturgeon’s writing, which includes criticism, interviews, and long-form profiles, has appeared in the Guardian, the Paris Review, Frieze, and the Baffler.

In his role at artnet News, Sturgeon will bring his refined tone and style to the site working closely with the team to guide the editorial process day to day handling both news stories and long-form features.

“What impresses me about Jonathon is his ability to detect the specific elements that make for a good story,” said artnet News editor-in-chief Rozalia Jovanovic. “He also has a keen sense and understanding for the range of editorial forms we work with here and has great ideas on how to broaden that. I’m thrilled to have him join the team.”
