The GOP has lost one of its greatest icons—or at least the creator of their busts. German sculptor Kurt Arentz died last Monday due to heart failure, the dpa reports. He is best known for having been commissioned to create bronze busts of numerous political and cultural figures including Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Shimon Peres, Helmut Kohl, Charles de Gaulle, and Leonard Bernstein.

Arentz’ death was announced by the Europäische Kulturstiftung (European Cultural Foundation) on Wednesday. The sculptor had long served as the group’s artistic spokesperson and was responsible for transatlantic cultural relations. Arentz, who was based in Leverkusen, had celebrated his 80th birthday at the foundation, joined by numerous high-ranking political figures.
