Heading to Big D this week? Not only will you find big hats, big hair, and big horns, but there are also big art shows all happening in Texas’s second largest city, Dallas. (And next week, the Dallas Art Fair returns, with socialites, blue chip gallerists, and savvy collectors turning out in full Southern force. The fair, located in the city’s Downtown Arts District, is more than just the showstopper of Dallas Art Week; it’s a serious new destination on the art culture map.)

This oil-rich city is investing a lot in their Arts District, even if it seems that it’s all going to the Cowboys, it’s not. This week’s featured shows include a wide variety of talent from local Dallasites to established global artists. From Susan Barnett’s geometric shapes to David Salle’s collage-like paintings, these exhibitions highlight the city’s major art shows happening this week. With shows such as Paul Booker’s Flow Through at Cris Worley Fine Arts and Jeff Baker’s Code at Conduit Gallery, viewers can see how the two Texan artists use different mediums as a mean for self-expression.

If you want to catch the latest international art stars to touch down in the Lone Star State, head over to Dallas Contemporary to see three shows all happening at once: start  with Anila Quayyum Agha’s Intersections, who was recently exhibited at Art Dubai with Aicon Gallery, then head to Nate Lowman’s new exhibition titled America Sneezes, and finish off with David Salles’ Debris. And if you’re just looking to for a night out on the town, head over to Goss-Michael Foundation for the MTV RE:DEFINE art auction and gala honoring Young British Artist, Michael Craig-Martin to fight against and bring awareness of HIV/AIDS.
