Ah, summer in Paris. The leaves are green, the sidewalk cafes are teaming, and the tourists are out in full-force. The French know how to do summer right, and the truth is, they accomplish that by abandoning the city in droves as soon as the month of August rolls around. Once les vacances are underway, you’ll find many a business (including galleries!) shuttered in late summer, as the entire nation enjoys some well-earned R&R. If you’re an art lover in the City of Light right now, good news: You still have the next couple of weeks to hit up some galleries before most of them close up for the August respite—in addition to the world-class museums, of course. The Louvre and the Pompidou and the Musée d’Orsay will stay open all summer long, if you can handle the crowds. Use our guide to be sure hit the unmissable spots, and then follow the lead of our French compatriots by putting your feet up and enjoying your vacation. This is Paris, after all, and what would a visit here be without art and leisure?
