Raymond Pettibon (see: “The Work of Raymond Pettibon“) has confirmed that he is a resident (and artnet neighbor) at Frank Gehry’s lower Manhattan apartment building at 8 Spruce Street.

artnet News Senior Market Reporter Eileen Kinsella was cruising Twitter yesterday when she saw an initial report of the fact by writer Matt Haber. The tweet led Kinsella to a Terry Richardson photo spread for Apartmento of Pettibon in his New York apartment with an eerily familiar view in the background.

If you consult the spread you’ll see the view matches that of artnet’s view (sans Frank Gehry Building, obviously) from our headquarters in the historic Woolworth building. Kinsella promptly tweeted at Haber and Pettibon for confirmation.

Ask and you shall receive in this Twitter tale: Pettibon confirmed Kinsella was correct when he favorited her tweet.

Number 8 Spruce Street is Gehry’s first residential design, lovingly called New York by Gehry. It stands 870 feet high and in 2011 was the tallest residential building in the Western hemisphere, complete with asymmetrical bay windows, an outdoor pool, a public school (in its first five floors), and a wide array of luxe amenities.

With his new Louis Vuitton Foundation building recently unveiled, starchitect Gehry shows no signs of slowing down (see: “As a Museum, Frank Gehry’s Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris Disappoints” and “Fondation Louis Vuitton Is No Cookie-Cutter Structure“).
