Russell Brand, Naomi Campbell, Boy George, and Laverne Cox are offering £1 or $1 for selfies taken in front of Pride murals that have sprung up in London, New York, and San Francisco.

The mural, by Los Angeles based artist David Flores, shows two gay couples kissing against a background of swirling rainbows. Take a selfie, tag yourself, add the hashtag #poweredbypride, post it on Twitter, and several luminaries and Equinox fitness will donate to the LGBTQ charities  The Pillion Trust and Hetrick-Martin Institute, depending on your location.

If you’re not based in any of the cities where the murals have popped up, you can also retweet Brand’s photo to raise money.

Following the Supreme Court decision to make gay marriage legal in the US and the annual Pride celebrations taking place around the world over the weekend, the statement is timely.

There was much discussion about the “rainbow profile pics” on Facebook adopted by a huge number of people in support of the gay rights movement. Taking a selfie with the #poweredbypride tag, people can not only show support for the movement, but also help those less fortunate.

UK charity The Pillion Trust seeks to help vulnerable and marginalized people within society improve their lives, and the New York based Hetrick-Martin Institute provides a safe and supported environment in which young people in the LGBTQ community can fulfill their potential.

Other celebrities taking part in the campaign are Daniel Lismore, Kylie Minogue, Jodie Harsh, Mizz Kimberley, James Jackie, Jim Warboy, and Kid Massive.

You can find maps to the locations of the murals in New York, London, and San Francisco here, the initiative runs through July 4.
