See Highlights From David Hockney’s Rollicking New Retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Is there any better way to burn off your Thanksgiving turkey than a vigorous walk around the Metropolitan Museum of Art? On Monday, the museum will give art lovers the perfect opportunity for a visual workout when it opens New York’s first major retrospective of David Hockney in 30 years (through February 25).

The traveling exhibition—for which the Met is the only North American venue—presents work from the British painter’s nearly 60-year career, bringing together 60 paintings, 21 drawings, five photo collages, and one animation.

“One of the surprises to me was how daring he was,” curator Ian Alteveer, who organized the exhibition at the Met, said of the artist in a recent video preview.
