Martin Scorsese: A Retrospective book cover.

Book publisher, Abrams recently released a volume chronicling master filmmaker, Martin Scorsese’s five-decade career in a new coffee table book, Martin Scorsese: A Retrospective, which includes never-before-seen photographs of the legendary director at work.

The filmmaker has one of the most respected names in cinema, and has worked with many of the greatest actors and actresses of his time. With a directorial debut in 1963 of a film he made while enrolled at New York University, nine years later, Scorsese received Hollywood recognition for his release of Taxi Driver starring Robert de Niro and a young Jodie Foster.

Flash forward several years; Scorsese came to direct some of Hollywood’s biggest hits such as The DepartedGood Fellas, Raging Bull, and most recently The Wolf of Wall Street.

Born in Queens, New York, to Italian parents, his father a clothes presser and actor, his mother a seamstress and actress, Scorsese was raised in a devoutly Catholic environment—an upbringing that heavily influenced themes he explores in his films.
