What You Need to Know: Based in Los Angeles, 5Art Gallery presents a group show of iconic and emerging street artists in “Art de Rue.” On view through November 22, 2022, the exhibition includes such highlights as Banksy’s Banksy of England (2004), the artist’s recreation of the 10-pound note featuring Princess Diana in place of Queen Elizabeth, and multiple signature mosaic works by Invader.
Why We Like It: Street art is one of the most stylistically diverse genres of contemporary art, with every artist inventing their own unique visual vernacular. “Art de Rue,” by bringing together examples from the early aughts to 2020 by some of the biggest names in street art alongside newer names on the scene, offers viewers a chance to grasp the experimental, avant-garde trajectory of street art in recent decades.
According to the Gallery: “Starting from the 1970s in New York City, street art has played an important role in contemporary art history. From Neo-Expressionism to conceptual art, street artists never stop exploring and expressing themselves through various materials….From Banksy’s stencil pieces to Invader’s ceramic tile mosaics, each of them represents a revolutionary style in street-art history. Through the unique techniques, brilliant insights on various matters, and excellent performance in auction houses, their artworks have become high-value art investments.”
“Art de Rue” is on view at 5Art Gallery, Los Angeles, through November 22, 2022.
