Venice Biennale Moves to May, Encroaching on Frieze NY Slot

The 2015 Venice Biennale will take place from May 9th – November 22nd with previews expected to take place on May 6-8th, the Art Newspaper reports. Traditionally, the biennale has opened in early June ahead of Art Basel in Basel. The new dates would theoretically run simultaneously to Frieze New York. This year’s fair is set to take place from May 9-12th. However, in a statement to TAN, a spokeswoman assures that the 2015 dates are not yet set. Art Basel in Hong Kong, which runs the week after Frieze NY this year, recently announced it would move to March in 2015. It is unclear if the move was resultant of any foreknowledge of the Venice Biennale’s plans.
