In 2002, Phaidon published the first edition of its popular Vitamin series, a coffee-table book on contemporary painting curated by international experts. Since then the publication has become a go-to source on the contemporary state of creation in the medium of paint.
Now in its third edition, Vitamin continues to evolve by responding to a new generation of painters, one that is taking the historic medium in unforeseen directions.
The artists represented in Vitamin P3 were selected by a coterie of critics, curators, historians, and artists, including: critic and director of Whitechapel Gallery, London, Iwona Blazwick; art historian Benjamin Bucholoh; artist Marlene Dumas; MoMA curator Laura Hoptman; critic, art historian, and curator Geeta Kapur; artist Alex Katz; art historian Tim Marlow; curator Sarah McCrory; curator and co-director of the Serpentine Galleries, London, Hans Ulrich Obrist; director of the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Beatrix Ruf; and Brooklyn Museum curator Nancy Spector.
It contains over 100 artists who have engaged with and pushed the boundaries of painting, such as Etal Adnan, Matt Connors, Ella Kruglyanskaya, Oscar Murillo, and Rose Wylie.
Including more than 400 illustrations that showcase the creations of leading contemporary painters, the book is the definitive guide to the medium of painting today. It also contains texts and essays by international critics and important cultural figures from around the world.
