World’s Oldest Pair of Pants Found in China

Two pairs of 3,300-year-old pants have been found in the western province of Xinjian in China, the AFP reports. To date, they are the the world’s oldest pair of pants found with a crotch. Prior to this discovery, the honor was held by a garment, which is only 2,800 years old.

Lu Enguo, a researcher at the Institute of Archeology in Xinjiang, says, “They were almost of the same shape as today’s trousers.” The pants were found on the mummified bodies of two male shamans by archaeologists in May. The garments are currently being repaired and preserved by an international team.
