Bob Ross, famed for his iconic television show The Joy of Painting, began his journey to fame during his service in the United States Air Force, where he discovered his talent for painting landscapes in Alaska. After leaving the military, Ross pursued his dream of becoming a full-time artist, founding his own painting instruction company, Bob Ross Inc.

That company became a hugely lucrative one, and now a property once owned by Bob Ross Inc. has been listed by Premier Sotheby’s International Realty for $1.99 million. When The Joy of Painting first aired in 1983, audiences were captivated by Ross’s gentle demeanor and ability to create stunning landscapes in just 30 minutes. The program ran for more than 400 episodes across 31 seasons. Each episode featured Bob Ross skillfully creating oil paintings from start to finish, and sharing his particular techniques along the way

Ross’s philosophy, emphasizing everyone’s innate talent for art resonated deeply with audiences. In a chaotic world, his reminder to embrace life’s “happy accidents” remains a timeless lesson. Despite battling lymphoma, Ross continued to spread joy through painting until his passing in 1995, age 52. His legacy lives on, inspiring countless individuals to pick up a brush and create.
