To learn the ins and outs of the new initiative, we spoke to the Head of Buy Now, Emma Fastenberg, to learn about everything from upcoming sales, accessibility in the art world, and how to make a purchase on the platform (it’s easy!).

Tell us a bit about yourself. What is your background in the art world?

I knew early on that I had an interest in pursuing a career in the art world. I fell in love with art and received my B.A. in art history from Tulane University. Throughout college, I had various internships in New York and New Orleans, including at Pace Prints. They offered me a job upon graduation, and I spent the next 6 years there in a series of roles, most recently serving as director.

What are you most proud of from your tenure at Pace Prints? What is the greatest lesson you learned? 

Throughout my time at Pace Prints, I had the opportunity to work with an exceptionally talented team of people—as well as access to iconic art and artists. Because Pace Prints is a publisher, I was able to observe the entire printmaking process, from creation of the artwork, to placing it with a collector. Professionally, the greatest lesson I’ve learned is: quality art, quality people, and integrity is a winning combination.

What is Buy Now and how does it fit in among Artnet’s many products?

The Buy Now platform is a new way to buy and sell art with Artnet. Every month, Buy Now will offer a curated selection of artworks that will be available for immediate purchase for a limited time. Tell us more about Buy Now’s inaugural sale with Tchotchke Gallery. What inspired this partnership?

Tchotchke Gallery is a digital gallery whose mission is to foster accessibility in an ever-changing landscape. We thought this aligned well with Artnet’s core values. The first sale, “In Technicolor,” showcased unique vibrant paintings by 7 emerging artists. The response was overwhelmingly positive! 

What can we expect from upcoming sales?

Our next sale launches this Wednesday! “Street Level“ features a selection of dynamic paintings and prints by early graffiti legends and street art stars of today. For this show, we are working in collaboration with the Artnet Auctions team as well as a few select pieces from the Museum of Graffiti in Miami.

As for the future, I think the best thing about Buy Now is that all sales will vary. In addition to offering curated selections of art across all collecting categories, we also have plans to partner directly with artists, galleries, and various figures in the industry to offer exciting art with the visibility and accessibility it deserves.

What would be included in your dream Buy Now sale?  What art inspires you?

One of my favorite things I’ve collected is my Yoshitomo Nara ashtray. I’m excited by art that doesn’t always go on your wall. One day, I would love to curate a Buy Now sale that features sculptural work by blue-chip artists of today at accessible price points. I am inspired by all genres of art, but I have a keen appreciation for Conceptual art, and how it forces you to think and switch your perspective.

How has the digital nature of Artnet impacted the initiative?
