Must-See Art Guide: Geneva

This week's guide includes Balthus, Richard Kern, Lesar Segall, and more.

We’ve reached the dog days of summer, but galleries and museums around the world are soldiering on with must-see shows of some of our favorite artists. This week, we’re taking a trip to Switzerland to sample Geneva’s best exhibitions, and it does not disappoint: Galerie Artvera’s group exhibition explores the Russian artistic diaspora in all its forms, including the likes of Sonia Delaunay, Marc Chagall, Alexej Jawlensky, and many more. Then, Galerie Xippas presents the quiet paintings of Céleste Boursier-Mougenot—an artist best known for his work with sound, but conspicuously silent here as he represents music in the form of monochromes. For work that’s graphic and playful, visit Art Bärtschi & Cie two-person show “Homework Edit,” and for portraits of the distinctly melancholy (and sometimes disturbing) variety, hit up Gagosian’s potent Balthus survey. Lastly, be sure to include Geneva’s world-class museums on your itinerary, especially the colorful “Swiss Pop” retrospective at MAMCO.

Find our full list of picks below, and enjoy the rest of your summer.
