Swedish brand Acne—best known for its fashion label Acne Studios—will launch a subscription-based platform to display digital art in your home. Named Curater, the venture is based around a custom-designed LED panel, which will be distributed to 500 users on launch, 50 of whom will receive it for free.

For a monthly fee, those users will have a rotating set of digitalized artworks piped into their homes from the cloud. The platform will host between six and eight exhibitions each year, assembled by a yet-unannounced group of international curators. The panel itself comes in a range of sizes from 17 inches to over 60 inches. Artworks can be selected wirelessly using an iPhone.

The works presented won’t necessarily have been designed specifically for digital display. However, the team behind Curater is confident their device will more than satisfy art lovers worldwide. Acne’s head of Research & Development Johan Holmgren said the platform “is the answer to the rapid art digitalization that happens today around the world. To be able to consume art on a digital platform we had to create a new type of product that let people enjoy the true experience of an art piece. Something no computer or smartphone can accomplish today.”

Currently, Curater is offered on an invitation-only basis, and Acne CEO Victor Press (who is also Curater’s co-founder) said that interest in the first production run of the frame “has been overwhelming.”
