Student Busted for Stealing Equipment From Art Institute
A 20-year old student at the Art Institute of Tennessee, Marquis Crudup, was charged with stealing nearly $6,000 worth of camera equipment from a supply room at the school. The theft happened back in June, though the student was only arrested and formally charged on Monday, August 17, according to a report from a local news station.
According to the report, Crudup, along with two friends broke into a secured room but seemed to have little knowledge of how surveillance cameras work. Crudup reportedly covered a surveillance camera with his baseball cap, took the expensive camera equipment from a counter and placed them in his knapsack, and then proceeded to remove his hat from the camera afterwards.
In examining the surveillance tape, police could see that the Canon cameras—worth about $5,700—removed from the counter were placed inside of Crudup’s bag, according to the report.
The other two men were not identified. Crudup was charged with burglary and theft. His bond has been set at $35,000.
There was no news about his status at the school. The report did not specify what Crudup was studying or what year he is in.
