Trisha Donnelly, Camille Henrot, Among Absolut Art Award Finalists

Swedish Vodka brand Absolut announced the shortlist for the 2015 Absolut Art Award on Tuesday. Five artists and five art writers and critics have been selected to prepare a proposal for an exhibition, art project, or scholarly or journalistic publication.

The two winners, one from each category, will be announced on May 8th, at the Venice Biennale. Both will receive €20,000 in cash. The winning artist is further provided with a €100,000 budget to produce their artwork or project. The winning writer receives a €25,000 budget.

In the running for art category this year are: Trisha Donnelly, Camille Henrot, Ragnar Kjartansson, Minouk Lim, and Frances Stark. The nominated writers are: Julia Bryan-Wilson, Mark Godfrey, Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer, Helen Molesworth, and Dieter Roelstraete.

They were nominated for consideration in the shortlist by an international panel, which included Juan Gaitán, Clara Kim, Margot Norton, Polly Staple, and Ali Subotnick, among others.

The Absolut Art Award jury is led by New Museum director and 2013 Venice Biennale director Massimiliano Gioni. He is joined by the FundaciĂłn Jumex’s Magali Arriola, Bidoun‘s Negar Azimi, M+’s Doryun Chong, and Dia Art Foundation’s Jessica Morgan.

In a statement, Absolut Global Art Manager Saskia Neuman said the finalists “are at the forefront of their artistic practices and theoretical research. We look forward with great anticipation to receiving the finalists’ proposals for their dream project and to the announcement of the winners in Venice this May.”
