Who’s in and Who’s Out at Art Basel? See the Exhibitor List for the Swiss Fair’s 50th Anniversary Edition

288 galleries will present booths at Art Basel's flagship fair in Switzerland this June.

Art Basel has released the exhibitor list for its 50th edition in Switzerland, running June 18-21. There have been some changes from last year’s fair: 23 galleries are participating for the first time, while others, such as Galerie Gmurzynska and Pace/MacGill Gallery, are newly absent.

Always a marquee event on the annual art world calendar, anticipation for this year’s fair is particularly high, both because of the golden anniversary and because of the cancellation of this year’s Art Basel Hong Kong due to the coronavirus epidemic earlier this month. (There’s a significant overlap in the exhibitor lists for Art Basel in Switzerland and the Art Basel Hong Kong that wasn’t.)

The 288 galleries at this year’s edition hail from 35 countries and territories, numbers that are in keeping with previous iterations of the fair. Several notable names are making the trip to the Swiss fair for the first time, including Kasmin, which will show early charcoal drawings from Lee Krasner; Venus Over Manhattan, which will present rare Peter Saul paintings from the 1960s; and Yancey Richardson Gallery, which will be arriving with new work by Mickalene Thomas. Those three galleries will each be participating in the fair’s Feature sector for specially curated presentations.

Other newcomers, such as New York’s Bridget Donahue and Shanghai’s Bank gallery, will present solo shows dedicated to emerging artists in the fair’s Statements sector, which features 18 galleries in total. The vast majority of exhibitors—232, to be exact—will set up shop in the show’s main Galleries sector.

Exhibitors will also be invited to show their wares on Art Basel’s new online viewing rooms, which were introduced after the cancellation of Art Basel Hong Kong.
