Christie’s Hong Kong’s Inaugural ASIA+ Sale Grosses HK$29 Million

Top Lot: Lot 7 | Zeng Fanzhi’s Bathroom | Price realized: HK$6,640,000 / US$860,544

Bidders came out en masse for Christie’s first ASIA+ sale, held in Hong Kong last Saturday. It realized HK$29,078,750 / US$3,768,606, selling 88 percent by lot and 98 percent by value.

As expected, household names received much attention. The top lot was Zeng Fanzhi’s Bathroom, which sold for HK$6,640,000 (US$860,544), at the lower end of its presale estimate. It was followed by Zhang Xiaogang’s Bloodline Series-Big Family: Comrade, which fetched HK$6,040,000 (US$782,784), also at the lower end of its estimate.

The third best lot was for Zeng’s work on paper Mask Series: Sky, which sold for HK$1,960,000 (US$254,016), setting a new record for a work on paper by the artist.
