Berlin and Leipzig based gallery Eigen+Art has added Greek, Berlin-based artist Despina Stokou to their stable. The artist called the move, “a milestone,” in a Facebook post confirming the addition on Thursday. Stokou had an exhibition in the gallery’s project space, Eigen+Art Lab earlier this spring. Her first solo show with the gallery, which also represents the likes of Neo Rauch, Carsten Nicolai, and Martin Eder, will take place at their Leipzig location in 2015.

Stokou has been on a fast track to art world prominence over the past three years. She previously showed with Berlin and Vienna’s Krobath, but skyrocketed in visibility after an acclaimed (and sold out) show at New York’s Derek Eller in March 2013. At the time Roberta Smith said Stokou’s paintings, “have much room for improvement but also a lot going for them.” The words, like much of the artist’s print and Internet-based correspondence and blogging, later found their way into a work.
