On Monday night, Gucci kicked off Art Basel in Miami Beach right with an uber-chic cocktail party. What other way is there to begin a week inevitably filled with sun, fun, and often a little too much champagne? The event, which was featured on our list of impossible-to-crash parties was also a celebratory preview of Kris Knight’s pop-up solo show “Smell the Magic” at Spinello Projects.

The whimsical, pastel-colored paintings depict faces, sometimes painted to look like sad clowns. Attendees included restauranteur Michael Chow, socialite Sarah Arison, real estate developer Craig Robins, writer Laura de Gunzburg, Gucci designer Frida Giannini, and artists Typoe and Daniel Arsham.

Spinello Projects was also responsible for assembling the acclaimed show “Auto Body,” which shows a variety of works by female artists, including a performance by Chicago-based artist Cheryl Pope, who stood below 700 five-pound water balloons as they gradually fell on her head.
