A 17th-century oil on canvas Dutch landscape by Jacob van Ruisdael is coming to Fort Worth, Texas, now that the painting has been purchased by the Kimbell Art Museum. The museum acquired Edge of a Forest with a Grainfield (c. 1656) in a private deal with Worcester College at Oxford University, which has owned the work since 1811.

Reportedly, British art experts estimate that the sale exceeded US$14 million. The Kimbell is adding to its current Ruisdael holdings, which until now has consisted of a lone landscape painting, A Rough Sea at a Jetty (c. 1650). Edge of a Forest with a Grainfield is expected go on view at the Texan institution in April.
