Madonna and Beeple announced yesterday, May 9, the release of three collaborative NFTs to be sold exclusively on the platform SuperRare.

The sale, starting on May 11, will benefit three nonprofit organizations that focus on women and children: the Voices of Children Foundation (which provides relief to Ukrainian refugees), the City of Joy Foundation (which aids domestic violence survivors in the Democratic Republic of Congo), and Black Mama’s Bail Out (which provides bail money for jailed caregivers).

The NFTs include digital renderings of the iconic singer made in Beeple’s signature style, with hypnotizing 3D scans of Madonna in surreal situations based on the concept of motherhood.

The racy portraits of Madonna in various poses also include audio contributions from the iconic singer. In one image, a tree of life appears to emerge from Madonna’s… privates, which are overlain with the poetry of Rumi.

The sale, despite the recent crash in NFT prices and the crypto marketplace as a whole, promises to be hotly watched.

“When Mike [Beeple] and I decided to collaborate on this project a year ago, I was excited to have the opportunity to share my vision of the world as a mother and an artist with Mike’s own unique point of view,” the material girl said in a statement.

“It’s been an amazing journey building this together from an intellectual idea to an emotional story, giving birth to art,” she added. “I wanted to investigate the concept of creation, not only the way a child enters the world through a woman’s vagina, but also the way an artist gives birth to creativity.”

“Our collaboration was really natural and we shared a creative vision that has been so gratifying to realize and now share with the world,” Beeple said in a statement.

The three works go on sale starting at 0.00035774 ETH ($1 USD) and are being sold via an open auction, meaning there is no reserve price.

Founded in 2018, SuperRare is one of the biggest NFT marketplaces on the Ethereum blockchain, having sold more than $250 million worth of NFT-based artworks since its founding. Since then, the platform has been experimenting with everything from the launch of a DAO token ($RARE) to a pop-up gallery in SoHo.

On May 11 at 8:00 pm EST, SuperRare will host a Twitter Spaces conversation between Madonna and Beeple about the unique nature of the collaboration.
