Balinese artist Nyoman Masriadi will debut his newest work at Paul Kasmin Gallery‘s booth at Art Basel Hong Kong. The painter, who was one of the winners of the Asia Society’s inaugural awards last year, has not had a new painting available for sale at an art fair in three years.

The new painting, titled Spares, continues Masriadi’s tradition of depicting stylized but strong Indonesian figures with exaggerated features. A muscular black man, shirtless and barefoot in purple short shorts, holds blue-framed sunglasses in his hand while wearing a second pair on his head. A speech bubble to the left of his head reads “no more lost glasses!”

While this year’s edition of Art Basel Hong Kong will open next week, running May 15–18, the fair will move to March in 2015. The reshuffling of major fairs, including the Venice Biennale, has turned the established art world calender a bit on its head.
