A new artist record has been set for Flemish painter Jan Gossaert at Zürich’s Koller Auktionen. The work, Virgin with Child (c. 1530) fetched 2.37 million Swiss Francs ($2.66 million with buyer’s premium) from an unidentified bidder during the house’s spring auctions.

According to the FAZ, the oil on wood panel work has spent the last 50-odd years at the Kunsthaus Zürich. The rather minute painting (17.5×13.4 inches) is one of only approximately 60 works that Gossaert created during his lifetime and was one of the last on the open market.
