Since its inception in 2010, Art Stage Singapore has been considered the flagship cultural event at the crossroads between Southeast Asia, China, India, Oceania, and the Middle East, and is the leading art fair for Asian Contemporary Art. Taking place from January 16 through 19 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, the fair is one of this year’s first international art events with a special focus on Asia. This fair promises an excellent overview of Contemporary Art from the Asia-Pacific region.

As in previous years, there will be several different art spaces, ranging from the main galleries section of the show, to the project stage, where solo projects by emerging Asian artists will be presented, providing the 40,500 expected visitors and participants with an extensive overview of current works by Asia’s headlining and emerging artists. 28 countries and 130 galleries will be participating, and the work of 600 artists will be on view at the art fair. The exhibitor committee consists of esteemed galleries, including Pearl Lam Galleries, ARNDT Gallery, and Art Plural Gallery.

A deeper understanding of Contemporary Asian Art will be provided by the fair’s newest component, in the form of eight different platforms, which will feature exciting new works by artists from Southeast Asia, India, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Australia. The platforms will occupy close to 20 percent of the fair’s exhibition space, and will provide international exposure for participating artists and galleries. This innovative addition to the fair will be presented in a unique, museum-like layout, with a coherent and fluid format.

Renowned and emerging artists will be featured in this year’s regional sections, including Australian photography by artists such as Juz Kitson (Australian, b.1987). Central Asia’s exhibition will offer artistic perspectives on the uncertain outcome of the economic reform following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The Chinese platform will present works by Chen Quilin (Chinese, b.1975) and Qiu Zhijie (Chinese, b.1969), among others, whose work reflects the conflict between the commercial and political aspects of the new creative environment in their country.

The Indian Platform will include works by mixed-media artists Jitish Kallat (Indian, b.1974) and Sakshi Gupta (Indian, b.1979). Japan is featuring installation artists Tatsuo Miyajima (Japanese, b.1957) and Nobuhiro Nakanishi (Japanese, b.1976). In addition, Taiwan is exhibiting an impressive selection of photographs and other images from artists such as Wu Tien-Chang (Taiwanese, b.1956). The Korean Platform will represent Southeast Asia, with works from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
