The Hamptons, on the Southern Fork of Long Island in New York, are an ideal beach escape in the hottest months of the summer. During July, three separate art fairs make the area a top art world destination. Throughout the month, artMRKT Hamptons, ArtHamptons, and Art Southampton will pitch their tents at the beach to celebrate art’s finest Modern and Contemporary works.
artMRKT Hamptons, located at the Bridgehampton Historical Society from July 11 through 14, will feature booths from 40 American galleries showcasing Contemporary and Modern works. The fair is partnered closely with the Parrish Art Museum, also located in Bridgehampton, NY, and a portion of ticket proceeds will benefit the museum. artMRKT Hamptons will also feature several large-scale installations and video art pieces presented by exhibiting galleries, so be sure to stop by the reception area, along with Sotheby’s Collector’s Lounge to check them out! The fair rounds out its activities with spectacular food offerings provided by a variety of New York City food trucks.
The sixth annual ArtHamptons will also be held July 11 through 14. The fair’s Pavilion, in the midst of the 95 acre-park at the Sculpture Fields of Nova’s Ark in Bridgehampton, will house more than 3,000 works of Post-War and Contemporary Art. More than 500 artists will be showcasing their pieces for the Hamptons elite and over 11,000 visitors are expected to attend. After checking out the booths inside the tent, be sure to take a look at some of the amazing sculptures on the grounds of Nova’s Ark, including Larry River’s 40 feet of Fashion at the fair’s entrance, which is presented by Tibor de Nagy Gallery and the Larry River’s Foundation.
In the final week of July, Art Southampton, presented by Art Miami, will open at the Southampton Elks Lodge in Sothampton, NY. In the 75,000 square foot space, viewers can browse a selection of 20th and 21st centuries works in booths from over 85 galleries from around the world and outdoor projects on the grounds. The VIP preview benefitting the Southampton Hospital kicks off the event on July 25th and the fair continues through July 29th. Throughout the weekend, book signings, panel discussions, and a specially curated show featuring alumni of the New York Academy of Art will be hosted, so be sure to check the fair calendar for interesting events.
Keep these fairs in mind when the summer heat gets to be too much in the city. If you find yourself in New York, hop on the famous Hampton Jitney or take the train out to enjoy fabulous art and cool beach breezes! Otherwise, the fairs are easily accessible from anywhere in the Northeast and each offers extensive parking options and lodging recommendations on their websites.
