Spotlight on EXPO CHICAGO 2013

EXPO CHICAGO is taking place at the Festival Hall at Navy Pier, September 19–22.

Fall is in the air; the heat wave has subsided, Labor Day Weekend has come and gone, and EXPO CHICAGO is right around the corner. Now in its second year, EXPO CHICAGO will host over 125 international galleries, and has an expected audience of tens of thousands of collectors and enthusiasts for the weekend of September 19 through the 22. Representing 17 countries and a total of 36 different cities this year, the fair will be showcasing a broad range of Contemporary and Modern Art galleries from Miami to Munich. Since its inaugural year just last fall, EXPO CHICAGO has proven itself to be not only a fundamental event for gallerists and collectors alike, but a much-anticipated occasion this season.

Held at Festival Hall at Navy Pier, the exhibition space is truly transformed by Studio Gang Architects into not only a unique, but notably effective and energetic design. Studio Gang’s arrangement allows visitors to effortlessly view the booths as they follow a layout modeled after Chicago’s grid-like streets. The design also includes a separate space for EXPO VIDEO, an exhibition area and lounge that will feature several artists’ works in film, video, and new media, demonstrating the fair’s active inclusion of works of varying media.

Emerging galleries will have the opportunity to show off one or two artists of their choosing in a special subdivision of the fair, EXPOSURE. This will grant these galleries invaluable visibility as they showcase their artists alongside some of the world’s top galleries. This will surely bring in some new talent, so while you’re strolling through the “streets” of the fair, be sure to wander your way over to EXPOSURE.

A unique element of the fair is /Dialogues, a year-round collaboration with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, which will conclude during the fair. Integrated in the schedule are panels and symposia with contemporary artists including William J. O’Brien (American, b.1975) and Jose Lerma (Spanish, b.1971), and art professionals from auction houses, galleries, and museums around the world.

If you’ll be in Chicago near the end of the month, be sure to check out all that EXPO CHICAGO has to offer. With such an impressive schedule of events, and a wide scope of Modern and Contemporary Art, it’s sure not to disappoint!
