Some industries have clearly established growth trajectories. The art industry is not one of them.

Most jobs in the sector are not even posted publicly. Some employees might work in the same organization for years—even decades—without gaining an understanding into how their skills might be applied to other parts of the art business.

This opacity has only become heightened in the lockdown era, when traditional networking opportunities have evaporated and many art workers are facing furlough or redundancy.

To address these challenges, Artnet News is teaming up with Art Market Mentors—a three-month mentorship program initiated by Catherine Manson and Caroline Sayan pairing art-market professionals with established members of the industry—to hold a series of free talks about art-world careers in 2021.

In the first of this three-talk series, we bring together arts professionals who have managed to reinvent and reorient their own careers, as well as a career strategy advisor to discuss how the pandemic has affected art-market jobs and how members of the sector can strive to adapt.

An audience Q&A session will follow the chat. (Please note the time zone for the start time.)
