Last weekend there was a literal whirlwind in Seoul, where just after the inaugural Frieze art fair wrapped up, a typhoon swept in, stranding collectors, gallerists, and even one of Artnet News’s own reporters in the South Korean city.

The fair, held from September 2 through 5, featured more than 110 galleries, the majority of which came from Asia, with around 20 hailing from international cities beyond the continent.

Dealer Jason Haam told Artnet News that hosting an event of this caliber was “a pride of the nation,” as blue-chip galleries like Acquavella, Gagosian, and David Zwirner descended on the city, and celebrities too: K-Pop star RM roamed the well-heeled booths, as did actor Jung Woo-sung and Libyan princess Alia Al-Senussi.

Although we don’t include listings in Price Check for works unaccompanied by prices, there were a few buzzy names mentioned: Lehmann Maupin said four works sold on opening day by Do Ho Suh; Kamel Mennour sold an installation by Alicja Kwade, a historical painting by Daniel Buren, and new works by Camille Henrot, among others; and Tina Kim sold work for as much as $500,000 by artists including Pacita Abad, Ha Chong-Hyun, Suki Seokyeong Kang, and Minouk Lim.
