Face masks are 2020’s unexpected must-have accessory. For art lovers, they can also be an opportunity to showcase a favorite artworks to passersby—and, just maybe, brighten someone’s day.
If you’re in the market for a new face mask (and, these days, who isn’t?), we have a resource for you. The online art marketplace Fine Art America offers thousands upon thousands of masks featuring fine-art designs by contemporary artists and art-historical favorites alike.
This is all possible because of Fine Art America’s partnerships with both giant image-rights companies and up-and-coming artists. Individual artists who are interested in apparel collaborations can upload images of their artworks, set their chosen price markups for different items, and choose where they’d like their artwork to appear (the website offers much more than just masks—it also boasts t-shirts, totes, and even baby onesies). Oh, and if you happen to have made your own art during quarantine, you can get that on a mask too—with one quick image upload, you can create a one-off custom product design.
Meanwhile, for those of us who are simply missing a favorite artwork tucked away in a closed museum, there is an array of historical images to choose from as well.
Before you settle in for hours of exploring, here are a few of our favorite art-historical masks below.
