About the Artist: The 26-year-old Israeli artist Gal Yosef is the youngest to sign to the Eden Fine Art Gallery roster. Inspired by cartoon characters from his childhood, Yosef creates 3D animations that present an alternative cartoon world where these familiar critters inhabit gritty contemporary scenarios filled with cigars and cigarettes, wads of dollar bills, and blinged-out jewelry. Yosef is largely self-taught digital artist, mastering programs like Maya 3D Design with the help of YouTube tutorials. He has since channeled his success into opening his own digital art studio, Fuzion, which has been running since 2016.

Why We Like It: Yosef represents a new wave of artists who employ computer software as their basic tool. And while his artworks embody his meticulous and intuitive skill, the works are lighthearted, nostalgic, and contemporary all at once. His winking cartoon characters, from Donald Duck to Winnie the Pooh, are meant to suggest a world in which these beloved cartoons grew up alongside the artist, ultimately conveying his affection for the characters he digitally sculpts.

According to the Artist: “I would build a fantasy world from toys and action figures. I never liked Minimalism. I liked big worlds filled with life and characters. My favorite movie was Toy Story, I would watch it every day. You could say that I became a 3D artist because of Toy Story.”
