Having conquered the fashion world with her boho-chic look, designer Nanette Lepore has decided to try her hand at art dealing.

Alongside her husband, singer and painter Robert Savage, she’s opening Lepore Savage Gallery, an alternative art venue that will host its first opening tonight (invite only, of course) in the couple’s West Village townhouse.

The first show, a 20th-century salon-style exhibition called “Rose is a Rose” was curated by Kara Brooks and will feature eight New York-based contemporary artists—Sebastian Blanck, Lori Field, John Gordon Gauld, Jane Lafarge Hamill, Caitlin Karolczak, Sarah Kurz, Andre Ribuoli, and Lena Viddo—who all create work that in some way retools classical iconography.

The whole thing will be set against the backdrop of the couple’s sleek hardwood floors and impressive art collection (which ranges from works by Paul Cézanne to no-name, flea market finds), and is sure to be fêted by an impressive group of fashionistas, socialites, and artists.

Lepore told T Magazine that she and Savage have been discussing the prospect of opening an art space for some time. “We’ve missed those days when we first moved to New York and the East Village was thriving, crazy with openings,” she said, echoing the ubiquitous nostalgia these days for the New York art scene of yesteryear. “We wanted to find a fresh connection to the art world, and this is a really different setting for art. It’s refreshing and digestible. It’s where you ultimately would like your art, in your home, on a wall for people to see.”
