“Charles James: Beneath The Dress” at the National Arts Club
In the wake of the Met’s highly successful Charles James exhibition in the spring, this week-long show will feature over 60 never-before-seen erotic and high fashion drawings by James, culled from the collection of his friend R. Couri Hay. The exhibition will also feature video interviews with James, as well as photographs by Anton Perich of the couturier and his models.

Opening Reception for “Tom Kelley’s Studio,” a Milk Gallery Project
Milk Gallery is celebrating the beginning of a month-long exhibition of photographer Tom Kelley’s exquisite images of sexy sirens through the decades. Spanning the 1940s through the 1970s, this collection of rare photographs includes an iconic image of Marilyn Monroe before she became famous.

Wednesday, October 1
“Weltstadt—Who Creates the City?” at Goethe-Institut
Goethe-Institut hosts an important exhibition that explores urban participation and the future of cities in light of new challenges like climate change, migration, and social polarization. In conjunction with German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building, and Urban Development, the show will also present successful urban planning initiatives from around the world.

Socrates Sculpture Park Annual Benefit Gala
Support this Long Island City sculpture garden and installation venue, which has previously housed work by Pawel Althamer, Wangechi Mutu, Catherine Opie, and countlessother seminal artists. This year’s benefit honors Christo, as well as Patricia E. Harris, CEO of Bloomberg Philanthropies, and will take place at Mark di Suvero’s studio.

New York Academy of Art 2014 Fellows Exhibition
Enjoy work from three incredible emerging artists: Elizabeth Glaessner, Yunsung Jang, and Nicolas V. Sanchez, the Academy’s 2014 post-graduate fellows.

Sunday, October 5
Studio Workshop—Silk Painting: Kimono-Inspired Designs at the Met
This is the first class in a three day (October 5, 12, and 19) workshop focusing on silk painting, surface treatments, and design, inspired by the beauty of the kimono. Each lesson is taught by an artist, and participants will create a number of samples, along with a finished product.

The Vinyl Factory Presents Dinos Chapman Luftbobler, Live A/V Show and US Premiere
As part of MoMA PS1’s Sunday Sessions, see a series of short films by Dinos Chapman set to his original electronic soundtrack. The multi-sensory experience inspired The Wire to christen Chapman “the David Lynch of the dance floor,” after the album’s debut in 2013.
