NPR “Selected Shorts” Podcast Delves Into the Art World

Parker Posey will read at Symphony Space on January 21 for a 'Selected Shorts' podcast about the art world.

Indie film goddess Parker Posey is among the actresses who will star in New York Public Radio’s upcoming “Selected Shorts” podcast “Art and Artists.” The segment, which will be recorded at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, January 21 at Symphony Space on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, will feature Posey, Dan Stevens (formerly of Downton Abbey), and actress Heather Burns performing humorous, passionate tales “about art and those who make it” according to the Selected Shorts website.

The readings will include excerpts from the new edition of The Diaries of Andy Warhol; a story by William Boyd (from the new collection Stories of Art and Artists); and a first-person fictional account by a minimalist artist wrestling with her work. The reading will also include new commissioned flash fiction by Justin Torres, Helen Philips and Dolan Morgan written in response to Ed Ruscha’s well received text installation on the High Line (Honey, I Twisted Through More Damn Traffic Today).

Laurie Simmons (Lena Dunham’s mom), whose work is the subject of the upcoming Jewish Museum show “How We See” (opening March 13) will also make a guest appearance (see New York’s Jewish Museum on a Laurie Simmons Buying Spree Ahead of 2015 Show). The program will be hosted by Matthew Love.

Ticket prices are available at selectedshorts.org. The program is broadcast on 143 public radio stations.
